NOSSP Wins Regional School Games Award!   NOSSP Wins Regional School Games Award!

On the eve of half term we received notification from Sport England and Youth Sport Trust that we had won the London and Home Counties School Games Award for ‘Competition for All’ in recognition of our ‘commitment to the development of competitive opportunities for all young people’.

The award follows the announcement in January that North Oxfordshire was ranked in the top 10% of School Games areas across the country for our commitment to, and development of, competition and the School Games during the autumn term 2015.

The accolade is a fitting reward for the tremendous dedication and hard work of our School Games Organiser, Emma Jackson, and team of School Sport Coordinators - Gaynor Allen, Rory Mawn, Kevin Peake, Lucie Smith-Childs, Richard Ferley and Ian Lee, who between them continue to offer a comprehensive, progressive and wide ranging calendar of high quality sports competitions and festivals.

During the autumn term, the team delivered 83 competitions and festivals that were linked to 10 community sports clubs and organisations. The events involved 4749 participants in 600 teams, and were supported by 630 Young Leaders. Our inclusive approach to competition enabled 242 participants and 24 leaders with special educational needs or a disability to experience a competition.

School Games Organiser Funding to Continue School Games Organiser Funding to Continue

Earlier this week, we received notification from Sport England that the funding for School Games Organisers will be extended through to the end of this parliament and the next comprehensive spending review.

Continuation of the funding is a reflection of the value placed on the impact of the School Games by the national partners, including the Department for Culture Media and Sport and the Department of Health.

North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership is delighted by this news and thrilled that we can continue our work with and through the School Games to engage and encourage more young people to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.

Congratulations to The Bicester School, who had KS4 teams representing North Oxfordshire at the Oxfordshire School Games Secondary Badminton Finals last term – a particular well done to the Girls team, who finished the competition with a Bronze medal.

The remaining spring finals will take place over four days either side of the Easter break, encompassing Sporthall Athletics, Swimming, Cross country, Hockey, Netball and Football.

Very best of luck to all qualifying teams and our excellent secondary school young leaders who will be supporting the Sportshall Athletics, Netball and Hockey competitions.
