#TeamNorth Oxfordshire School Games Round Up!

Team North has experienced a successful 4 days at the Oxfordshire School Games Spring Finals, and there are still 2 more competitions to come before attention turns to the Summer events.

Prior to the Easter break, schools descended on Tilsley Park, Abingdon and Oxford Community Arena for Cross Country, Hockey and Netball. The challenging, and rather muddy, cross country course didn’t faze the well prepared teams from North Oxfordshire (when you’ve run through the sheep field at Warriner you can take on anything!), and both Primary & Secondary athletes put in determined performances to claim some of the silverware on offer.

A special mention must go to Finmere Primary School who had a fantastic hockey tournament and for the second year in a row took home Gold medals – a wonderful achievement for the smallest school in Oxfordshire. Their Young Reporters were on hand to record the action; you can read their report here.

The Secondary Netball Finals were a competitive affair, with the league winners from North Oxfordshire facing tough competition from across the County. Teams from The Warriner, Cooper and Blessed George Napier demonstrated fantastic teamwork throughout the afternoon, and claimed deserved Bronze medals, but it was the superb Year 8 Team from North Oxfordshire Academy that went undefeated to take away Gold.

The post Easter events proved to be just as exciting, and thankfully slightly warmer!

Sibford Gower and Fringford Y3/4 Teams both took home medals at the Small Schools Football Final – demonstrating superb respect for their opposition and the officials. In the pool, Sibford School Y8/9 Girls swam superbly to take 3rd place and The Cooper School U16 Boys dominated their races and were rewarded with gold.

Once again the passion and noise from the Sportshall was probably heard across the city, but it certainly didn’t daunt Blessed George Napier who performed strongly in both the track and field events, with all three of their teams securing enough points for medals of the silver and gold variety.

Another special mention must go to the Young Leaders from The Cooper School, North Oxfordshire Academy and Blessed George Napier School. Over the past few months they have given up a lot of their extra-curricular time to attend official/umpire workshops and support North Oxfordshire competitions and festivals – all in the build up to supporting the Oxfordshire School Games Finals. Their commitment, professionalism and passion didn’t go unnoticed by competitors, team managers and competition organisers.

Finally, best of luck to The Bicester School U13 Boys Basketball Team and St John’s Key Steps Gymnastics Team in their competitions over the next few days.
