Cricket, Rounders & Tennis - It must be Summer!?!

Cricket, Rounders & Tennis - It must be Summer!?!

Summer has arrived(!), and over 850 students have been enjoying Cricket, Rounders, Tennis and Athletics events across the partnership.

Almost 60 Y5/6 children from neighbouring Primary Schools The Grange and St. John’s came together to enjoy an afternoon of rounders organised by Year 10 Blessed George Napier Sport Leaders.

The School Games Secondary Athletics always provides us with some enjoyable afternoons and attempts at second guessing the weather! Congratulations to Blessed George Napier School, who took first place in all 3 age groups.

240 Y3/4 children have taken part in Mini Red Tennis festivals in the Banbury, Bicester, Kidlington and Warriner clusters, with fantastic links developed and embedded at the local tennis clubs.

Unfortunately ‘rain stopped play’ for the Bicester cluster Cricket Festival, but 330 Y5/6 children were able to generate plenty of runs at the Cooper and BGN events – with a further 600 children expected to take to the field after half term.

Table Tennis at Bishop Carpenter

Bishop Carpenter Primary School launched a junior table tennis section in September 2015 and now has 14 committed players who regularly train with a qualified coach.  Progress has been so noticeable that there is a real possibility that Bishop Carpenter could be ranked amongst the best table tennis playing primary schools in Oxfordshire in the not too distant future!

Well Done to all involved!

Playtime fun at Harriers!

Playtime fun at Harriers!

Eighteen year 5 students from Harriers Banbury Academy completed their Playground Leaders training last week.  They spent the morning developing their leadership skills and building up a bank of fun games and activities they could play with Key Stage 1 children at lunchtimes.

They all worked really hard and did a great job when they were put to the test in the afternoon, taking charge of 30 year 1 children! The younger children thoroughly enjoyed the activities and are really excited about having the leaders out during lunchtimes!

Oxford Half Marathon Schools Challenge

The Oxford Half Marathon Schools Challenge is open to local primary school children from around Oxfordshire, and is all about really inspiring kids to get active and start running!

Children are encouraged to run 12.1 miles prior to race day, usually a mile per week, achieved and verified at school or at home. Then, on race day, they will complete their final mile, with their teachers, in front of thousands of supporters!

Not only will they cross the same finish line as the half marathon runners, but they will also receive their very own finishers’ goody bag and medal to wear with pride!
