Cropredy get ‘Sugar Smart’

Cropredy get Sugar Smart

Cropredy Church of England Primary School set up a Change4Life club earlier this year and has seen it grow from strength to strength. Pupils from years 3,4 and 5 have been enjoying lots of fun activities together with two of the Schools very dedicated Teaching Assistants.

As well as playing fun activities and making their own very inventive games, pupils have been very concerned with healthy eating. Having discovered the Change 4 Life ‘Sugar smart app’, they have set about spreading the word and promoting some healthy food swaps.

To really publicise the importance of healthy eating they decided that they wanted to present to the whole School during an assembly. They used the app to scan barcodes of foods and asked the audience whether they thought the sugar content would be higher or lower than the previous scanned item. They found that in a lot of cases the audience wrongly guessed, highlighting the need to really look and see exactly what goes into the food we all eat on a daily basis. They also suggested some tasty food swaps to eat rather than those high in sugar.

At the end of the assembly, the C4L gang handed out free packs to all pupils so that they could go home and spread the word further. Most pupils also asked moms and dads to download the app and scan food when they are out shopping.

Great work Cropredy C4L team!

Launton go skipping mad!

Launton C.E. Primary School held a Skip2bfit workshop last week inspiring children from across the school to take up skipping.  In a newsletter to parents they wrote:

The children thoroughly enjoyed the Skip2bfit day sessions yesterday and we will be continuing the daily skipping challenge as part of our campaign to promote health and fitness. We hope you will download the app and join in with the Launton skipping challenge. The children are so enthusiastic and motivated and have already started practising to improve their scores. The skipping workshops also reminded the children about the importance of staying focused, practising and persevering when things are difficult. This fits in with our school ethos and developing learning dispositions. Skipping has also provided a timely, enjoyable activity for children to take part in first thing in the morning before school begins.

Pupil Premium Holiday Hub Offer

Pupil Premium Holiday Hub Offer

Cherwell District Council is offering one third off the normal price of this this year’s Summer Holiday Hub programme to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Partner schools are invited to book up to five specially discounted places for pupil premium children.

Schools are requested to meet the remaining cost from pupil premium budgets meaning that children get to attend one full week of the programme free of charge.

This offer provides schools with yet another opportunity to support the health and well-being of some of our most vulnerable youngsters.

Children and schools who book onto the summer hub before Friday 2nd June will be invited to attend a FREE fun taster day delivered jointly by Cherwell District Council and North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership during National School Sports Week 2017.

Leadership Buddies support Transition

Year 7 Leaders from Blessed George Napier School and Banbury Academy have ‘buddied-up’ with 30 less confident Year 6 students from four local primary schools to form a Transition Leadership Academy.

The group will meet and work together on three occasions over the next six week at the secondary school sites, to plan the delivery of two KS1 multi-skills festivals.

It’s hoped that the growing bond developed between the pupils will help to create a smoother primary/secondary transition for the Year 6 students and ensure that they settle quickly into secondary life come next September.
