Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

The New Year is well underway and so too is our competition calendar for 2018.

During the first two weeks of this term 32 teams from 8 of our secondary schools competed in our annual School Games badminton championships.  The Bicester School were victorious in both the KS3 boys and KS3 girls competitions, whilst The Warriner School took the honours in the KS4 boys and KS4 girls tournaments.

The Bicester cluster kicked off the Sportshall Athletics season last week with over 200 children from 8 primary schools fighting for local bragging rights and a place in the Partnership Final.  Kings Meadow were the eventual winners with St Mary’s snatching the runners-up spot.  Our other five clusters do battle over the next few weeks before the secondary schools lock horns in early March.

Children from across the partnership will also be competing in hockey, netball, rowing boccia and gymnastics before Easter.

Girls Active

Following the delivery of our own Girls Active programme last term, teenage girls from Banbury Academy, North Oxfordshire Academy, Blessed George Napier and The Warriner School now have an opportunity to access local leisure centre facilities free of charge for one month.  This is courtesy of an agreement reached with Woodgreen Leisure Centre and Cherwell District Council.

The girls qualified for the offer through their regular attendance at exclusive classes (gym, dance, spin, yoga, HITT) organised by the centre during school hours last term.

The programme aims to increase physical activity levels and improve the health and wellbeing of 14+ year old girls who do not currently participate in regular physical activity and sport.

Outstanding Primary School

Outstanding Primary School

I’m delighted to announce that three of our schools – The Grange County Primary, Hardwick Primary and Bure Park Primary – have applied for Youth Sport Trust Outstanding Primary School of the Year Award.  Applicants were invited to focus on one of the following themes: Physical Education, School Sport, Physical Activity, Emotional Wellbeing.

The winning school will be announced at this year’s YST Conference Dinner at the Ricoh Arena on Tuesday 27 February 2018.  We wish all three schools well.

Quality Mark 2017-19

Congratulations to our 22 primary schools and 2 secondary schools who have successfully applied for the YST Quality Mark 2017-19.  Many schools have progressed a level since their 2016 application and all have found the self-review process extremely valuable when planning for this year’s PE and Sport Premium spend.

A special mention goes to Brookside, Hardwick and The Grange primary schools who all achieved Gold status following their validation visits shortly before Christmas.
