Sportshall Athletics Finals Day

Following a previously snowy false start, Sportshall UK took over the hall at Blessed George Napier School on Friday to deliver a full day of competition for Primary and Secondary School teams (with some teacher involvement thrown in too!)

The morning stage was set for the 6 primary schools that qualified from the recent cluster competitions, and the Year 9 leaders from Blessed George Napier jumped in to action to make sure all the events were completed smoothly, with fantastic support and encouragement for the younger cohort.

A fantastic team performance from the athletes at Hanwell Fields Primary School saw them crowned Champions for 2018, closely followed by Kings Meadow. Both teams will now compete at the Oxfordshire School Games Finals after Easter.

The afternoon saw seven secondary schools squeeze into the hall for the Year 7 and Year 8 competitions, a record number of entries and plenty of enthusiasm from everyone involved.

Blessed George Napier Year 7’s & The Warriner School Year 8’s were the eventual winners of an enjoyable and friendly afternoon.

Key Steps to Success

73 Gymnasts from 8 primary schools joined us at Banbury Academy for our now annual Key Steps Gymnastics competition.

Each gymnast performed a floor routine and vault, with both performances marked out of 10 by a judge.  The combined totals of the top three athletes in each team were calculated to give an overall team score in each age group.

The children had clearly worked hard over previous weeks, learning and perfecting the different skills and elements required achieving seamless routines for the spectators and judges.

All the schools performed fantastically well, but congratulations go to Hill View Primary School who produced the winning team performances in each Key Step. They will be joined by The Grange (KS1), Hardwick (KS2) and St John’s (KS3) at the Oxfordshire Finals in May.

Mass Multi-skill Madness in Banbury

Last Thursday nearly 600 Key stage 1 pupils from schools across the town took part in one of four multi-skills festivals held at Banbury Academy and Blessed George Napier School.

The events, organised by School Sport Coordinators Lucie Smith-Childs and Rory Mawn, were delivered by Year 6 and Year 7 students from the two secondary schools and several of the participating primary schools.

The children got to experience a whole range of fun games and activities aimed at developing physical, social, personal and moral skills.  Feedback from pupils, leaders and teachers alike was all very positive:

“Very friendly atmosphere, good and clear instructions, our children loved it.” (Teacher from Orchard Fields Primary)

“I feel happy,” “I understand what I had to do,”  “Stuck in the mud was great”, “I liked the beanbag games” and “Wicked!” (Children from Bishop Loveday Primary)
