The achievements of three local youngsters were recognised at the recent Annual Oxfordshire Sports Awards held at the Kassam Stadium, Oxford.
Hollie Roberts from The Cooper School was awarded ‘Junior Young Sportsperson of the Year’. Hollie, a Martial Arts specialist, represented England earlier in the year at the World Championships and achieved two individual Gold medals and two team Silvers. A report on the awards event, written by Hollie, appears below.
Hollie’s brother Mitchell (also pictured) joined Hollie in an awesome display of their sport to literally ‘kick’ the evening’s proceedings off for the highly impressed audience.
Congratulations also go to Jacob Ibbotson from North Oxfordshire Academy who scooped the ‘Active Inspiration Award’. The award was given in recognition of Jacob’s commitment to the highly successful Youth Activator scheme running in Banbury. As a volunteer Jacob has selflessly given his time to organise and lead numerous sporting activities for fellow youngsters on the Bretch Hill estate.
Ryan Whitehead from Gosford Hill School was the third youngster from our region to receive a nomination. Whilst he did not win the prestigious ‘Young Volunteer Award’ his commitment to leadership and volunteering, both in the Kidlington primary school sport and Kidlington Sea Scouts setting was recognised. Ryan was the recipient of the ‘Young Volunteer’ prize at the Cherwell Sports Awards in June 2011.
Congratulation go out to all three of your young stars!
Over 300 guests attended the Dinner and the evening was hosted by Jerome Sale from BBC Oxford.
