The Warriner School Year 1 Dance Festival

The Warriner School recently hosted our annual Year 1 Dance Festival with 152 boys and girls in attendance from our family of Primary schools. We had 23 dance leaders supporting and teaching the Year 1 children. Sarah Hastings, Dance Co-ordinator for North Oxfordshire School Sports Partnership, expertly guided the leaders through an initial training session followed by a rehearsal a few days later…… and then the festival!

This year’s theme was Mathilda and Friends based on the Mathilda musical. The dance consisted of 3 parts: walking to school, revolting in the classroom and finally when I grow up. Each section was taught, practised and then performed. Our Dance leaders did a fantastic job of guiding the children through each section. After more than 2 hours of energy sapping dance and physical activity, the Primary school children left tired but very happy.

For this Festival to be a success The Warriner Dance leaders had to initially show genuine commitment towards the training and rehearsal that took place; on the day they had to be outgoing, enthusiastic and maintain very high energy levels for the duration of the festival. They were amazing and a huge thank you goes out to all of them – really well done!

We should also say thank you to Sarah Hastings for her inspirational and expert training of The Warriner Sports leaders as well as her energetic input on festival day. We are already looking forward to next year.
