The "Olympic Torch" Comes to Cooper!

A group of talented Year 9 artists from The Cooper School have been working tirelessly through break and lunchtimes to produce some fantastic models of the Olympic Torch. Their work was displayed in the quadrangle at the School on May 18 to coincide with the arrival of the Olympic Torch in the United Kingdom. The real Olympic Torch will pass through Bicester on July 9 when all Cooper School students will have the opportunity to line the streets and share in this once in a lifetime experience.

Plans are well underway for Cooper School’s Olympic Day on July 12. Year 9 students are working in their art lessons on large and colourful Olympic Sport symbols which will be displayed at the Opening Ceremony, while other students will perform dance and gymnastics routines which they are practising at a lunchtime club. Students in Years 7 and 8 will be offered the opportunity in their Music lessons, in the coming weeks, to compose their own Olympic themed pieces, with the best being shared on July 12.

Members of staff are currently planning a host of exciting activities, based on the Olympic Games, in which all Key Stage 3 students will participate during our Olympic Day, supported by the Year 12 students. The activities span the various curriculum areas so there should be a range of activities on offer to appeal to all tastes. The day will also incorporate the culmination of the School’s annual Inter-House Sports Day, for which students have been practising in their P.E. lessons and at the School Athletics Club, as well as a mass participation sports event.

Events will conclude with a Closing Ceremony; an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the day, of which there will, undoubtedly, be many.
