Bicester Area U11 Swimming Gala

More than one hundred and fifty children in Years 5 and 6 participated in the recent Bicester Area Schools Swimming Gala, held at Bicester Leisure Centre. The competitions were organised by Cooper School and were expertly run by student sports leaders. Congratulations to Chesterton on completing the double in winning both the girls’ and boys’ competitions.

This was the largest Bicester Area Schools Swimming Gala to date, with sixteen girls’ and sixteen boys’ teams participating from Langford Village, Glory Farm, Bure Park, King's Meadow, Fritwell, Chesterton, St. Edburg’s, Longfields, Launton, Brookside, St. Mary’s and Southwold Schools.

The winning Chesterton teams were presented with certificates to mark their achievement and are joined by the runners up, Bure Park Girls and St. Mary’s Boys, in qualifying for the forthcoming North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership Final.

During the galas, the Spirit of the Games value of determination was a focus area and the young swimmers strove to succeed, enthusiastically cheered on by their team mates. A child from each school was presented with a special certificate to recognise the high level of determination they had shown.

Craig Oliver (Bicester Blue Fins Swimming Club) supported at the gala and signposted the young swimmers to their local community club. The swimming teachers who deliver the Primary Schools’ swimming programme were also on hand to offer support and encouragement.
