Year 5/6 Banbury Area Swimming Gala

The Banbury Area Schools Swimming Gala took place at Spiceball Leisure Centre, Banbury on Monday 16th November. Fifty-eight children in Year 5 and 6 participated in the competition from six schools including Cropredy, St. John’s, Harriers, The Grange, Bishop Loveday and Hill View Primary Schools.

Teams took to the water to compete in 6 events over 25m displaying amazing ability and technique throughout.  The events included Individual Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly, followed by Freestyle and Medley Relays,

During the gala, the Spirit of the Games value of determination was a focus area and the young swimmers strove to succeed, enthusiastically cheered on by their team mates. A girl and a boy from each school were presented with a special certificate to recognise the high level of determination they had shown.

The Gala was well delivered by Sports Leaders from Blessed George Napier Catholic School who organised swimmers, collated results and had a tough job on the finish line with some close races. This year the standard was high with Bishop Loveday doing the double, winning both the girls’ and boys’ competitions.  Hill view finished runners-up in the girls’ competition and just missed out on second spot to St. John’s in the boys’ competition.  Congratulations to Bisphop Loveday and Hill View Girls’ teams and Bisphop Loveday and St. John’s Boys’ teams for qualifying for the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership Final on Monday 30th November at Spiceball Leisure Centre, Banbury
