Bicester Area Cross Country

The North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership (NOSSP) staged another highly successful Bicester Area Primary School Cross Country Championships, held at The Bicester School on Wednesday 21st September.  Bicester Athletics Club supported the competition by setting up the course and providing officials.  In addition, an incredible 89 Bicester School Sports Leaders marshalled the course encouraging pupils as they ran around the site.  There were a total of 586 children taking part in the 6 races from 12 Bicester Primary Schools including Brookside, Bure Park, Chesterton, Fritwell, Kings Meadow, St. Edburg’s, St. Mary’s, Langford Village, Longfields, Launton, Southwold and Fringford.

Each race was very competitive with many excellent performances throughout the afternoon and lots of determination used to cross the finish line. After each race, the top three finishes received medals donated by Bicester Athletics Club.  Well done to all children who took part and congratulations to Yasmin (Brookside), Daniel (St Marys), Isabelle (Langford Village), Jacob (Langford Village), Bella (Bure Park) and Adam (Langford Village) who all won their respective races.  In the team event, Launton won the Year 1/2 Girls with Bure Park runners-up, Southwold took first place in the Year 1/2 Boys and Bure Park second place. Langford Village were winners of the Year 3/4 girls with  Bure Park runners-up, Langford Village then won Year 3/4 boys and Fritwell took second place. Bure Park took top spot in the Year 5/6 girls with Langford Village runners-up spot and finally Langford Village won the Year 5/6 boys and Bure Park were runners-up.  Both the winning and second placed teams in each race have qualified for the School Sport Partnership (SSP) final at Sibford School on the week commencing the 28th November 2016.  In addition the top 20 athletes in each race who are not part of the first and second placed teams have also qualified for the SSP finals and will get an opportunity to compete as an individual.

The event ran very smoothly and this was largely down to the amazing support from Bicester Athletics Club, NOSSP, Bicester School PE staff and 89 Bicester School Sport leaders.
