Children 'Flearning' following BMX Academy!

Current UK BMX Champion, Mike Mullen, has been visiting a number of schools in North Oxfordshire to inspire and enthuse children through BMX riding and tricks, whilst sharing with them the valuable learning experiences he has encountered throughout his career.

Last Friday a special guest called Mike Mullen came to our school.  He is a World Champion!  In the morning we had an Assembly and he told us all about his life and his older years.  Mike told us about “flearning” (which is his word for failing and learning).  All of us found it useful at school and in school.  After break Mike did a demonstration on his bike and then Years 5 and 6 did a workshop.  It was fantastic!

On Wednesday we had a special workshop from BMX World champion Mike Mullen. He did an amazing assembly for KS2 in the morning and taught us all about FLEARNING (using failure as a positive tool for learning) and explained how he got into riding BMXs. He even got Miss Butler balancing on one wheel of the bike! Then, we all went outside and he did an incredible trick display where he rode and jumped over 5 teachers! Throughout the day the Year 5 and 6 children went outside and had a go at riding the BMX, going over ramps, riding one-handed or no-handed and even trying some tricks! It was a really fantastic day and one the children will remember for a long time. BMX fever definitely hit us!

On Wednesday Mike Mullen, former World and current UK BMX Champion, visited Brookside. Mike led an inspirational assembly which culminated with an amazing display of tricks in the playground. This included jumping over a group of 6 teachers! Mike then worked with different classes to teach them new tricks on BMXs. The key messages Mike gave to the children were not to give up and follow your dreams.
