United for Finals at Community Stadium

Ninty nine Year 3 & 4 children braved the cold on Tuesday 8th November for the U9 Respect Football Finals, hosted by Banbury United Football Club at their home, the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium. Thankfully, the pitches remained playable despite the early morning frost, and with hats, gloves and scarfs at the ready the children were keen to play in front of their supporters and keep everyone entertained and distracted from the weather!

The 3 teams from Sibford Gower, Sibford School and Shenington battled hard in the small school competition, completing an enthralling and competitive set of round robin matches, with Shenington Primary School topping the table at the end of the morning and finishing as North Oxfordshire U9 Small Schools Football Champions 2016.

The temperature picked up as the 9 teams from Christopher Rawlins, Deddington, West Kidlington, St Thomas More, Harriers, St John’s, Bishop Loveday, Hill View and Fritwell contested the large schools event. Exciting and closely matched group games played out before Finals and friendlies commenced, with each game capably and professionally refereed and supported by Young Leaders from The Warriner School.

Harriers, Fritwell and St Thomas More conquered their groups and progressed to the final group games, and as the sun began to set and the temperature dropped further, only goal difference separated the top 3 teams. Harriers Banbury Academy emerged victorious to be awarded North Oxfordshire U9 Large Schools Football Champions 2016.

Banbury United are working hard to position themselves at the heart of our community, and we will be working with them closely over the coming months as they look to host our Secondary Football Finals. Each player that took part in the Primary Finals has been given a free entry ticket to watch Banbury United first team play a home league match during the 2016/17 season, and the club photographer captured some fantastic images which can be viewed here.
