Fantastic turnout at Banbury Area Netball!

Banbury Academy hosted the U11 Banbury Area Netball Festival on Thursday 16th  March.  There was a brillaint turn out with 11 primary schools attending (Cropredy, Dashwood, The Grange, Harriers, Hardwick, Hanwell Fields, Hillview, Orchard Fields, St. Johns, St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s).  In total there were 18 teams consisting of 141 year 5 and 6 children.

The festival ran as 2 separate competitions; 12 teams competing against each other in a ‘high 5’ competition and 6 teams competing in an end ball competition.   The end ball was great…lots and lots of goals so lots of success. Hillview’s performance was outstanding; they won all of their games and scored a total of 75 goals!  They were the outright winners followed by Dashwood in 2nd and St. Joseph’s in 3rd.

The high 5 netball tournament started with the 12 teams being divided into 3 pools and each of these playing a round robin tournament.  Matches were just 8 minutes one way so the children had to be quick off the mark and speedy with those goals.  St. Joseph’s were the winners of pool 1 with Hillview closely behind in 2nd, Hanwell Fields in 3rd and St. John’s in 4th.  The Grange won pool 2 followed by Cropredy B in 2nd, St. Mary’s in 3rd and Orchard Field’s in 4th. Pool 3 was won by Dashwood followed by Cropredy A in 2nd, Harriers in 3rd and Hardwick in 4th.  Second round matches were then played to decide on the final placements.  St. Joseph’s, who had given a solid performance throughout the whole morning, continued their form in these final matches and triumphed over The Grange and Dashwood to take top spot.  2nd place was taken by The Grange who finished just one goal ahead of Dashwood.   Hillview was the winner of matches versus Cropredy A and B resulting in an overall 4th place.  These 4 teams will now go on to represent the Banbury Area at the partnership finals on March 27th.  We wish them lots of luck!

Well done to all the children who took part and to the 12 Banbury Academy leaders who officiated.
