Run, Bicester, Run!

Following the launch of the Healthy New Towns initiative in Bicester, the Five Acres cluster of schools have been encouraged to think about the activity levels of the children in their schools and what they could do to raise these levels.

With much research and positivity towards the Daily Mile, established in Scotland, 3 out of 4 of the schools have decided to implement it in one way or another.

Chesterton School have decided to start two mornings a week with a whole school 15 minute walk, jog or run.  The children seem very keen and it is great to see the older children running hand in hand with the younger children and encouraging them to keep going!

One class at Five Acres have taken on the challenge and are feeling the benefits!  We are hoping it will roll out across the rest of the school soon.

St Edburgs have gone all the way with all classes completing a 15 minute walk, jog or run every day at a time which fits in with their timetable for the day.  3 children in Nelson class managed to keep up with their teacher and run the full mile this week without needing to stop, rest or even walk - great progress!

Southwold school have taken on a different challenge, the skip to be fit program which is going very well too.

There has been a lot of positive feedback from both parents and children alike - the last comment I heard was from a year 2 child - 'I love the Daily Mile!'.

We'll be looking forward to new records being set at next year's cross country events!
