Banbury Academy Kwik Cricket

166 children spent the day at Banbury Cricket Club on Thursday 15th July as they participated in the Banbury Academy Cluster Kwik Cricket Festival. It was a jam packed day as 18 teams played a total of 51 matches in a Girls Competition, a Boys Plate Competition and a Boys Cup Competition.  The girls did not stop as they played 7 rounds of back to back matches.  There were some extremely close matches - many being won by 10runs or less.  The Grange were the eventual winners with Hillview A team finishing in 2nd place and Queensway in 3rd.  The boys matches were also hotly contested, with standards noticably rising throughout the day as skills became more practised and highly tuned.  The winners of the Boys Plate competition were Hanwell B team, with Queensway B finishing in 2nd place and Hillview B in 3rd.  The Boys Cup competition saw Queensway A finish on top, followed by Hillview A and then Dashwood.  Well done to all the winning teams.  The Grange girls and Queensway A Boys will now go onto represent the Banbury Cluster at the Oxfordshire finals in July....good luck!

The importance of teamwork was discussed at the beginning of the festival and was a key theme throughout the day.  Some of the children will be presented with special teamwork certificates during their assemblies this week.

Thank you to the team of 14 Banbury Academy sports leaders who officiated the matches.  They had recently completed their 'Chance to Shine Activators' training and it was great to see them put their skills to the test.
