Bishop Loveday clean sweep

One hundred and twenty-five Year 3 and 4 children participated in the BGN Family of Primary Schools’ Football Festival held at Blessed George Napier Catholic School on Thursday 12th October 2017.

Fourteen teams from Bishop Loveday, Cropredy, Orchard Fields, St. John’s, St. Joseph’s and William Morris Primary Schools took part.  Upon arrival Year 9 BGN student sport leaders took teams for warm ups and skill practices.  Thereafter, teams were then divided into three competitions, Cup for A teams, Plate for B teams and Shield for C teams. There was lots of skill, effort, determination and teamwork displayed by all teams which were expertly refereed by BGN student sport leaders.

In the shield competition Bishop Loveday were victorious by winning all of their matches.  Orchard Fields took runners-up spot followed by St. John’s and Cropredy.  The Plate competition winners were also Bishop Loveday who won all of their matches with St. John’s coming second, Orchard Fields third and Cropredy fourth. Bishop Loveday took the clean sweep by defeating St. John’s in the cup final and therefore, crowned BGN Family Year 3/4 Football Champions 2017.  Congratulations to both finalists who have qualified for the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership Football Final in November.   In the remainder of the Cup competition, St. Joseph’s and Cropredy were joint third and Orchard Fields beat William Morris to take fifth spot.

During the event, the Spirit of the Games value of teamwork was a key focus area. A player from each team was selected and presented with a special certificate to recognise their teamwork skills they had shown throughout the competition.

Thank you to all players, teachers, teaching assistants and BGN student Sport Leaders who contributed to a fantastic event which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
