Banbury Area High 5 Netball Competition

8 schools entered the Banbury Area Netball Competition held at Banbury Academy on Thursday 9th November – Hillview, St. Leonard’s, Hanwell Fields, Bishop Loveday, St. Joseph’s, The Grange, St. Mary’s and Harriers.  The teams all played each other in a round robin tournament across 7 rounds.

Lots of the matches were very close and the final results even closer with several of the positions having to be decided by goal difference.  The top 2 spots were taken by The Grange (1st) and Hillview (2nd) who both conceded just 2 goals throughout the whole tournament and played some superb netball particularly in their final matches.  St. Joseph’s also did brilliantly to win 5 out of their 7 matches finishing in 3rd place.  Hanwell Fields were 4th, Bishop Loveday 5th, Harriers 6th, St. Mary’s 7th and St. Leonard’s 8th.   All the children improved dramatically in skill and confidence throughout the morning….congratulations to all of them!

Good luck to The Grange, Hillview, St. Joseph’s and Hanwell Fields who have qualified for the partnership finals later on in the year.

All the children took the School Games Value of Respect fully on board, making sure they listened carefully to the umpires, their teachers and each other and thanking everyone at the end of their matches. Each school nominated one child to receive a special Respect certificate at the end of the morning, well done to all these children.

The competition was supported by 10 experienced netballers who played a big part with the preparation as well as the umpiring etc. on the day.

Some feedback….

“Superb leadership from the young leaders.  They were helpful and gave coaching tips.  Well organised event.”

“The umpires were great.  Smooth running and no hanging around-thank you.”

“It worked really well this year.  The leaders were fantastic – clear, encouraging, helpful and very confident.”
