Bicester Sportshall Athletics Showdown!

On Wednesday 10th of January, the Bicester Leisure Centre was host to over 200 year five and six students in the annual Gifted and Talented Sportshall Athletics competition. 8 schools from the Bicester cluster went head to head competing in 6 field and 6 track events. Students showcased their abilities to an eager audience of parents, throwing, jumping and running as far, as high and as quick as possible. Lots of students experienced and excelled in events they have never before had a go at.

Team work, the focus of the event, was evident throughout, students were supporting and congratulating team mates in the field events and the roof was raised by the amount of cheering in the track events. The team results finish as follows in ascending order… Southwold, Heyford, Brookside, Chesterton, Fritwell, Five Acres, St. Marys and the winners of the day Kings Meadow who go through to partnership finals.

Many thanks go to Bicester Athletics club and Steve Flynn who supply the equipment and support running the event – it could not go ahead without such fantastic support. Also thanks to the Bicester School Year 9 leaders who helped with the smooth running of the even.
