Banbury Ac. G+T Sportshall Athletics

Students from 7 of Banbury Academy’s cluster primary schools competed at a Y5/6 Gifted and Talented Sportshall Athletics event on Thursday 8th February.  It was a highly competitive event with 143 children trying to out run, jump and throw each other.  The competitors took part in the field events first – girls and boys standing long jump, vertical jump, triple jump, foam javelin, chest push and speed bounce.  After these events it was clear that Hanwell fields had an extremely strong team with them winning 7 of the 12 events!  This gave them an impressive lead of 24 points as they went into the track events.  However, the other teams gave them a run for their money particularly the Hillview girls who, out of 6 races, came =1st in 2 and outright 1st in another 2.  The Grange team also did well to come =1st in 1 race and outright 1st in 4 out of their 12 races.  Despite these impressive results, Hanwell Fields could not be beaten and in fact extended their lead even further finishing 26 points ahead.  Hillview came 2nd, The Grange 3rd and Dashwood 4th.  Well done to all the competitors for participating and showing outstanding teamwork throughout the event…..I particularly liked the Dashwood cheerleaders!  Good luck to Hanwell Fields who go on to represent our cluster at the Partnership finals in March.

The event was run by 27 Y10 and Y12 Young Sports Leaders who did a fantastic job of supporting the students and officiating the event.

“The Young Leaders were friendly and helpful.  The format of the event was excellent and encouraged independence.” (Y5/6 teacher – The Grange)

“Another excellent morning.” (PE lead – Hillview)
