The Cooper School Kwik Cricket Festival

On Friday 18th May The Cooper Cluster schools descended onto the cricket pitch at BNOCC. The primary schools had just completed a  week of SATs, so it was great for them to release some tension onto the cricket bat and ball. The school games value was honesty and this was shown throughout many games when the primary children had to say whether it was a 4 or 6 as the boundary was very difficult to see from the crease. Some of the Sports leaders nominated some children from their games who had shown the school games value as well as the nominations from the school staff.

There were a total of 22 teams, totalling 220 children from Glory Farm, Burepark, Fringford, Launton, Charlton-on-Otmoor and Longfields. The weather was very good, resulting in a dry, warm day. There were quite a few deck chairs and picnic blankets brought to enjoy a day of cricket.

The day was run by The Cooper School Sports leaders and they were very professional in acting their part as umpires, even one pupil having the stance of a professional umpire behind the wickets with arms folding and confidently signalling when a 4 or 6 was delivered. The day could not have run without the leaders and without the training done before hand, it could not have run as smoothly as it did.

There were 4 pools, 3 in the ‘boys’ and  1 in the girls. The results are as follows:

Pool ‘boys’ A –           1 – Fringford,

                                2 – Burepark,

                                3 – Longfields

Pool ‘boys’ B –           1 - Burepark Team 2,

                                2 – Fringford Team 2

                                3 – Longfields Team 2

Pool ‘boys’ C –           1 – Glory Farm A

                                2 – Glory Farm Blue

                                3 – Burepark Blue

Pool Girls –                1 – Burepark

                                2 – Fringford

                                3 – Launton

I would like to congratulate Burepark Girls and Fringford ‘boys’ A who have qualified for the next round.

Feedback

“The whole day was fantastic” Launton Primary Teacher

“I really loved kwik cricket, I didn’t think I would. It was really relaxed and not at all like other sports we have been to” Charlton-on-Otmoor pupil.

“Generally the young leaders were very well organised and knowledgeable about what they were doing, scoring in kwik cricket is difficult” Longfields Teacher

Students loved the event and some children were asking to play more cricket at school” Pupils from Longfields
