KIDLINGTON PRIMARY SCHOOLS' KWIK CRICKET FEST

KIDLINGTON PRIMARY SCHOOLS' KWIK CRICKET FESTIVAL

Released: 8th June 2009 at 09:00 AM

Over 150 Year 5 and 6 children from our local primary schools took part in the Annual Kidlington Kwik cricket festival held at Stratfield Brake on Friday June 5th. The festival was played in three sections: Year 6 boys, Year 5 boys and Year 5 and 6 girls. North Kidlington, West Kidlington, Edward Feild and St Thomas More fielded at least one team in each section. Young Leaders from Gosford Hill School each took responsibility for a team and guided them through the day umpiring their matches and helping them to improve their skills. The progress the children made throughout the day was clear to see.

The winner of the Year 6 boys' competition was Edward Feild A team with North Kidlington A team in second place. Roles were reversed in the Year 5 boys' competition, with North Kidlington A in first place and Edward Field A in second place. West Kidlington School won the Girls competition, closely followed by St Thomas More. The winners of each section will now go forward to represent Kidlington in the County Finals later this term.

Several of the children have received coaching this term from Nick Duval (Kidlington CC) and his team through the Chance to Shine Project. At the end of the festival each school nominated a player to receive a plaque on behalf of the school acknowledging their involvement in the Project.

Nick Duval runs sessions for Under 11s at Stratfield Brake on Monday evenings and all competitors were encouraged to join.
