Girls from across the North Oxfordshire School Sports Partnership got the opportunity to run out on the main pitch at Banbury United on Wednesday in the year 7,8 girls football tournament. The event was organised for girls that play for their school but are not currently members of a football club, with the winners and runners up going through to represent the Cherwell District at the Oxfordshire Youth Games at Iffley Road on the 28 June.Teams from Banbury School, Blessed George Napier, Cooper School and Bicester Community College all played against each other in closely contested matches. In most cases, this was the first time the girls had the chance to represent their school  in an inter school competition leading to an exciting buzz around the ground. The games where organised and officiated by qualified leaders from BGN school with support from Oxfordshire Competition Mangers, Cherwell District Council and Banbury United. Banbury School narrowly won, just one point ahead of BGN.Following the tournament, representatives from Banbury United Ladies chatted to the girls about joining a local football team and the benefits of being part of a community club. Although it was clear that the standard of play improved throughout the afternoon, the qualifying teams will receive more coaching before they go to the Youth Games in June. Good Luck!Details of local girl's football clubs can be found under the clubs section of the website.Simon WestCompetition Manager
