On the 19 March children from across Banbury came to Spiceball Leisure centre to take part in the first North Oxfordshire Schools Sports Partnership swimming gala.
The event gave 130 Children from 9 Primary Schools the chance to take part in a team competition designed to give children the experience the excitement of what it's like to swim in a gala for the first time. On the day 2 competitions took place one for large schools and one for small. Bishop Loveday narrowly pipped St'John's in the large school event with Cropredy taking the honours ahead of Queensway in the small schools competition.
The races included individual breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle as well as medley and freestyle relays. The gala finished with a giant float relay which involved every swimmer.
Banbury Schools Leadership students worked alongside Banbury Swimming Club, Parkwood coaches and Competition Manager to organise the day.
The event finished with presentations for everyone and a short talk about how to stay involved in swimming and enjoy the sport.
