SSCos

Secondary PE Specialists (School Sport Coordinators) from 7 of our partner secondary schools are released for one day a week to work with a cluster of partnership primary schools.

Their main duties and responsibilities include:

• Promote, develop and support the delivery of high quality teaching and learning in primary PE.
• Encourage and support schools to provide a broad, rich and engaging PE curriculum.
• Support teachers to achieve high quality outcomes for young people through PE and school sport.
• Help schools to understand how high quality PE provision contributes to overall school improvement, including children's health and wellbeing.
• Act as a mentor to primary PE Coordinators and support them in their PE role
• Help primary teachers to develop confidence and competence through the occasional modelling of good practice.
• Deliver occasional cross-partnership or whole school in-service training for teachers and teaching assistants.
• Support the roll-out of school sport clubs targeted at the ‘least active/more vulnerable’ children (Change4Life Sports Clubs).
• Support primary schools to introduce and develop Level 1 (intra) competition.
• Provide opportunities for increased participation in Level 2 (inter) competition i.e. cluster competitions, leagues, festivals, etc
• Support the SGO in the development and delivery of Level 2/3 Competitions
• Provide, train and deploy leaders to deliver OSHL opportunities for the least active/most vulnerable.
• Provide, train and deploy leaders to support both intra and inter school competition within cluster of schools.
• Facilitate regular cluster networking opportunities
• Help establish and embed links between schools and local leisure providers and sports clubs, thereby promoting clear pathways for young people into community sport
• Provide national and local updates in relation to PE, Health and Sport.
