Banbury Area Year 5/6 Quicksticks Hockey

On Thursday 25th February Blessed George Napier Catholic School hosted and delivered the Banbury Area Schools Quicksticks Hockey Festival for children in Years 5 and 6.  The event involved over fifty children from six local Primary Schools including Orchard Fields, Dashwood, Harriers, The Grange, Hanwell Fields and Hill View.

As Schools arrived BGN Young leaders took teams for a warm up and a skills session.  The six teams then took part in a tournament played on a round robin basis which provided the young players the opportunity to put their skills to the test in a competitive and fun environment. The matches were expertly umpired by BGN Young leaders.  Coaches and volunteers from Banbury Hockey Club also supported the event offering guidance to the Young leaders and signposted the young players to further playing opportunities at their club.

Hill View remained undefeated to win the competition and Harriers took runners-up spot.  Congratulations to both teams who have qualified for the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership In2Hockey Final on Thursday 3rd March.

During the event, the Spirit of the Games value of respect was a focus area and sporting behaviour was demonstrated by the young participants throughout. A boy and a girl from each team was presented with a special certificate to recognise the high level of respect they had shown to others.

Thank you to all participants, teachers and teaching assistants, BGN Young Leaders and coaches and volunteers from Banbury Hockey Club who contributed to a fantastic event which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
