Cooper Family Kwik Cricket Festival 2016

The tenth annual Year 5 and 6 Kwik Cricket Festival for The Cooper Family of Primary Schools saw the largest entry to date with eighteen teams, including more than one hundred and seventy children, taking part. The event was organised by The Cooper School, with its student sports leaders taking responsibility for umpiring the matches, and was played at Bicester and North Oxford Cricket Club.

Teams from Longfields, Glory Farm, Charlton-on-Otmoor, Fringford and Launton Primary Schools played in the Festival. The competitions were won by Fringford (Boys) and Launton (Girls); congratulations to both teams. The winning teams were presented with individual certificates and a team trophy and have qualified for the Level 3 County Kwik Cricket Finals which take place in July.

During the event, the Spirit of the Games value of passion was a key focus area. A girl and boy from each team was selected and presented with a special certificate in recognition of their positive attitude and perseverance throughout the festival.

Mark Townsend, Youth Coordinator at Bicester and North Oxford Cricket Club, who helped to train the student leaders, attended and supported at the event, offering advice to the young players and leaders as well as raising their awareness of the opportunities available to them at their local community club. The children all agreed that they had enjoyed the Festival and it is hoped that they will have been inspired to continue playing cricket.
