BGN Family Sportshall Athletics competitions

This term the BGN Family of Primary Schools took part in two very successful Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics competitions at Blessed George Napier Catholic School.  Over a hundred Children from Bishop Loveday, Cropredy, Orchard Fields, St. John’s, St. Joseph’s and William Morris Primary Schools took part.

In both competitions children took part in various track and field events including; relay races, speed bounce, standing long jump and triple jump, vertical jump, javelin and chest push.

The first of the competitions took place on Thursday 26th January and focused on gifted and talented students.  The field and track events were passionately contested with lots of noise and enthusiasm on display throughout.  St. John’s Catholic Primary School won the event and will go on to represent the BGN Family at the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership final on Tuesday 22nd February

The second festival took place a week later on Thursday 2nd February and was aimed at less active children who do not usually engage in sport and physical activity beyond lesson time.  They completed a circuit of athletic activities in which they learnt and practised each activity before gaining individual and team scores. The inclusive nature of this event ensured less confident children were able to engage in and enjoy the activities.

During both events, the Spirit of the Games value of passion was a key focus area. Two children from each team was selected and presented with a special certificate to recognise their positive attitude and perseverance throughout the festival.

Thank you also to thirty five very capable and efficient BGN Year student young  leaders who did an outstanding job at officiating both track and field events and encouraging all competitors.
