BGN Family Year 3 and 4 Football

One hundred and forty-four Year 3 and 4 children participated in the BGN Family of Primary Schools’ Football Festival held at Blessed George Napier Catholic School on Thursday 11th October 2018.   Fifteen teams from Bishop Loveday, Cropredy, Hardwick, St. John’s and St. Joseph’s Primary Schools took part.  Each school provided three teams which were divided into three ability competitions; Cup for A teams, Plate for B teams and Shield for C teams.

After taking part in warm ups and skill practices, delivered by Year 9 BGN student sport leaders, teams took part in a series of round-robin matches with five teams in each competition.  On a dry autumn morning there was lots of skill, effort, determination and teamwork on display which were expertly refereed by BGN student sport leaders.

In the shield competition Bishop Loveday were victorious by winning all of their matches.  St. John’s, recording two wins, a draw and one defeat took runners-up spot.  Bishop Loveday also came out on top in the plate competition by scoring 12 goals and not conceding a single goal in their four matches.  Hardwick took runner-up spot by being narrowly defeated a single goal to Bishop Loveday.  A strong Hardwick team won all of their matches to win the cup competition with Bishop Loveday second.  Congratulations to both Hardwick A and Bishop Loveday A who have both qualified for the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership Football Final in November.

During the event, the Spirit of the Games value of teamwork was a key focus area. A player from each team was selected and presented with a special certificate to recognise their teamwork skills they had shown throughout the competition.

Thank you to all players, teachers, teaching assistants and BGN student Sport Leaders who contributed to a fantastic event which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
