The Bicester Cluster Swimming Gala

The Bicester Area Primary Schools Swimming Gala took place on Wednesday 5 December at The Bicester Leisure Centre.  A total of 114 children from 12 schools attended, which was great to see as many schools couldn’t attend because of Christmas events taking place on the same day.

At the start teams were allowed to enter the water to do warm up lengths before the competition. The events included individual competition in backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle and then the team competition of the medley and freestyle relays.

The school Spirit of the Games value was ‘passion’ and each school was asked to select a girl and boy swimmer from their squad who showed the value throughout the gala. Certificates were awarded to the schools. I would like to say that there were so many children who showed passion, a very difficult decision for the teachers!

The boys’ competition was won by Burepark,  2nd place was Langford Village, 3rd  - Chesteron, 4th – St Mary’s 1 and 5th – Fritwell

The girls’ competition was won by Langford Village, 2nd place was St Mary’s 1, 3rd - Fritwell, 4th Kings Meadow, 5th Burepark.

The sports leader from the Cooper School managed the stop watches, scoring and organised the schools around the pool at the start. At the end of the competition the sports leaders handed out the certificates to the participants.
