The Cooper Yr 3 Multiskills Festival

In February, The Cooper School hosted the Year 3 multiskills festivals. As each school arrived the sports leaders were very keen to take a group of children to warm them up in preparation for the upcoming activities and as the weather was good the warm up sessions took place on the astro. There were 10 teams who attended in the morning from Finmere, Charlton-on-Otmoor, Langford, Launton, Burepark and Longfields, with a total of 138 children taking part.

As with the KS1 festival, the sports leaders were told to focus on quality rather than quantity during this session, so were focused on teaching the Year 3 children how to do the activities correctly, rather than as quickly as possible. Once every child had a turn, the sports leaders were allowed to introduce a little competition. The skills taught were ladders, speed bounce, target throw, catching/passing, hurdles, basketball shooting, football dribbling and shooting, standing long jump, hockey dribbling and hurdles. As the weather was pleasant we were able to move the football and hockey onto the astro, giving them more space and also creating more space in the sports hall for the indoor activities. The School Games Value was Teamwork and at the end of the event children were awarded, by the staff, a certificate for showing the school games value and then the sports leaders also nominated children for their efforts.
