BGN Family Year 3 Multi-skills Festival

To celebrate National School Sport Week 2019 with a focus on being active to help improve physical wellbeing, Blessed George Napier organised and hosted a Year 3 Multi-skills festival for their Cluster of Primary Schools.  One hundred and fifty-seven children and twelve teams from six schools took part including Bishop Loveday, Cropredy, Hardwick, Orchard Fields, St. John’s and St. Joseph’s.

Teams took part in an array of activities including relay and sprint races, archery, howler throw, standing triple jump, tag games, golf, throwing and catching, team building and parachute.  The activities were confidently delivered by twenty-one Year 7 student leaders from Blessed George Napier and seven Year 6 student leaders from St. Joseph’s.

The student leaders are part of the BGN Transition Leadership Academy involving Year 7 BGN leaders who have buddied-up’ with less confident Year 6 students from St. Joseph’s.  These identified Year 6 pupils who lack confidence, are anxious or who have expressed worries about moving to BGN in September.  The group came together two weeks previously on Monday 10th June at BGN to take part in fun icebreaker games and activities to develop their communication and leadership skills. They also planned their activities for this Year 3 multi-skills festival.

It is hoped that the growing bond developed between the students will create a smoother primary/secondary transition for the Year 6 students and they settle quickly into secondary life come September.

During the festival, the Spirit of the Games values ‘Self Belief was a key focus area.  One boy and one girl from each team were presented with a special certificate to recognise their positive attitude throughout the festival.

Congratulations to all children, student leaders, teachers and additional adults who all contributed to a fun and enjoyable festival.

“It has been a fantastic opportunity for our leaders to shine and lead activities for others when they do not always get the chance.  They have grown in confidence over the morning and generally have worked hard with positive attitudes.  They are more confident in coming to BGN next year and have interacted well with the BGN leaders.” (Teaching assistant at St. Joseph’s)
