Term 1 Wykham Park Academy Events

It’s been a really busy start to the year at Wykham Park Academy with over 900 children taking part in Primary Cross Country, Football and Change4Life Events.

The Cross Country saw children of all ages from across the BGN and WPA clusters joining together to make a highly competitive event.  All the children did brilliantly and showed tons of determination and self-belief on their way round the courses.  A massive congratulations to Hanwell Fields who won three of the six team categories...they were the overall winners of the competition.  Cropredy, The Grange and Bishop Loveday also had winning teams and will join Hanwell Fields plus the runner up teams from each category, as well as individuals who finished in the top 20 who are not part of a winning team, at the Partnership Finals on 29th November at Sibford School.  Good luck to all these children!

The BGN and WPA clusters joined forces again on 10th October for the Y3/4 Football Tournament.  The emphasis was on enjoyment and for the children to play football games at their own ability level.  The 28 teams were split into Cup, Plate and Shield competitions and Player Power Plays played which allowed teams to bring on extra players if they went 2 or more goals down. This worked really well, keeping the children motivated and providing an extra challenge when needed.  The tournament was a huge success and it was great to see children of all abilities enjoying competitive football.  Well done to the winning teams: Harriers, Hillview, Bishop Loveday and Orchard Fields.

The last event of the term was a North Orienteering Change4Life Festival. Activity levels were really high throughout the morning as the 113 children worked in mini teams to hunt for 15 locations across the fields at Wykham Park using photographs as clues.  Each location had a healthy/sporty question which they had to work together to answer and then race back to the base station to check.  The importance of teamwork and honesty were talked about at the beginning and celebrated at the end.

Thank you to the 90 Young Sports Leaders from Wykham Park who helped deliver these events, they did a brilliant job!
