The Cooper Cluster Term 1 Festivals

The first event in the Cooper School Festival calendar was Tag Rugby for Year 5 & 6. There were a total of12 teams from 7 schools, with 118 participants which included Glory Farm, Burepark, Fringford, Langford Village, Longfields, Launton and Charlton-on-Otmoor.

The competition format was 2 pools, where A was the competitive pool and B was for teams to participate, have fun and gain the experience of playing tag rugby in a competitive situation.

The games were overseen by The Cooper School sports Leaders, who grew in confidence as the game progressed and ensured that the school games value of respect was evident in the games. The leaders controlled the game well and fairly.

The teachers nominated 2 children from their school who showed respect throughout the games, so well done to these children. The sports leaders also had the opportunity to nominated children who had showed the school games value and these were awarded certificates at the end of the festival.

This was followed closely with the mini football, but due to the number of teams it was decided to hold the games out on the back field rather than the astro. This was an event for both Cooper and Bicester cluster schools; there were a total of 31 teams from 15 schools, totally 201 participants. It was quite an amazing site across the field seeing 10 pitches set up with some excellent quality football being played by year 3 & 4. It was decided to keep the competition format for all 4 pools, but having the focus on teamwork as the school games value. The staff were asked to nominate a team or teams who showed good teamwork, but they were not allowed to nominate their own teams.

The last few games were unable to be played due to a change in weather, so all the games not played were given a draw result.

The successful teams were – St Edburg’s 1 & 2, Langford 1 & 2, Burepark 1 & 2, Charlton, Launton, Kings Meadow , Longfield. Congratulations.
