BGN Cluster Autumn Term Report 2022

Normality returned this academic year with primary schools again having the opportunity to take part in a comprehensive programme of competitions and festivals for all children and ages.  Three hundred and eleven children and thirty-nine teams from all nine BGN Cluster Primary Schools engaged in events during the autumn term.

Wykham park hosted The Banbury Area Key Stage 2 Cross Country on Thursday 29th September.  Bishop Loveday, Hardwick, Orchard Fields, St. John’s, St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s Aston Le Walls and William Morris Primary Schools participated in the event.  Both team and individual qualifiers from this competition had the opportunity to compete against schools from across North Oxfordshire at The Partnership Final on Friday 25th November at Sibford School.

Bishop Loveday, Cropredy, Orchard Fields and St. Mary’s Aston Le Walls took part in The Banbury Area Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Festival at Banbury RFC on Thursday 13th October.  The event involved fifteen teams from ten schools with games taking place in a round robin format.

Playground leader training also took place at Bishop Loveday in September and William Morris in November.  Year 5 and 6 students at these schools deliver fun and active games for Key Stage 1 children at lunchtimes.  In addition, children in Year 3 and 4 at Cropredy participated in team building activities and a selection of children from all classes took part in a pupil voice discussion on my visit in November.

In the absence of festivals and competitions in late November and December it gave me the opportunity to visit some BGN Cluster Primary Schools and speak to their PE Coordinator about their PE, School Sport, and Physical Activity offer.  The schools I visited were Longford Park, St. Mary’s Aston Le Walls, Cropredy and William Morris.  This has proved an invaluable insight into each school and how I can support schools further.  In the new year I will aim to visit the remaining schools within the BGN Cluster.
