WPA Cluster Autumn Term Report 2022/2023

It’s certainly been a busy term for the KS2 children in the Wykham Park Cluster of Primary Schools with events being held in Cross Country, Tag Rugby, Orienteering, Hockey and Football.  These have all been very well attended by over 500 children from across all 8 schools.

The calendar started at the end of September with The Banbury Area KS2 Cross Country which was attended by 231 children from the WPA Cluster along with children from the BGN cluster.  Well done to Hillview who retained their Champions title.  All WPA schools had finishers in the top 20 and therefore qualifiers for the NOSSP finals in November which was fantastic.  Hillview, The Grange, Queensway and Hanwell Fields also had teams qualify for the finals and it was brilliant to see so many of our children competing at this highly competitive event on 25th November.

6 of our schools joined schools from the BGN cluster to take part in the Y5/6 Tag Rugby Festival which was held at Banbury Rugby Club on Thursday 13th October.  The intent of this festival was to develop the children’s rugby skills and progress was really noticeable throughout the morning.

Nearly 100 children from 6 WPA Cluster schools attended the Y3/4 Teamwork Orienteering Festival on 3rd November.  The intent of this event was to engage new audiences and to improve health which, judging by all the running around and red faces was definitely achieved.

On Thursday 10th November Dashwood, Hanwell Fields and Hillview again, joined up with the BGN Cluster to take part in the Y5/6 Inter2Hockey Festival. All children did brilliantly to develop not only their hockey skills but also their knowledge and understanding of the game.  Good luck to Hillview who have qualified for the finals in March.

The final event of the Autumn Term was the Y5/6 Football Festival which 47 girls and 38 boys from Dashwood, Hanwell Fields, Hillview, St. Mary’s and Harriers took part in.  Hanwell Fields and Hillview girls went onto to play at the NOSSP finals which was held the following week.

In addition to these events, 55 Y5/6 children from Dashwood, Queensway and Hanwell Fields have been trained up to become Playground Leaders this term.  I'm sure they will do a great job of boosting the physical activity of KS1 children during break and lunchtimes.  I look forward to training some more children in St. Mary's, St. Leonards and Hillview next term.

Well done to all involved in all of these events this term, including the 67 KS3 Sports Leaders from Wykham Park Academy who have done a brilliant job of helping to deliver the events, developing their leadership skills as well as many other important life skills along the way.
