BGN Cluster Spring Term Report 2023

It has been another busy term for the children in The BGN Cluster of Primary Schools with events being held in leadership, multi skills, sportshall Athletics, football, and netball.  Over 500 children took part from across all nine schools.

The new year started off in January with thirty-six year 5 and 6 primary leaders and twelve year 7 BGN students coming together to receive leadership training.  The event also prepared them to deliver activities to year 1 children for the multi-skills festivals the week after.  280 children from eight cluster primary schools took part in skill-based activities developing their agility, balance, coordination, and team building challenges.  Six schools also provided sixty-two primary leaders to support the event.

On 26th January Bishop Loveday, St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s Aston Le Walls took part in the year 4/5/6 sportshall athletics competition.  There was certainly a buzz around the sportshall with lots of exciting relay races.  Athletes also competed in various jumping and throwing events.  In a close competition, St. Mary’s Aston Le Walls were victorious and represented the cluster at the Partnership Final on 24th February.

Over 100 children took part in array of activities including archery, boccia, dodgeball, bench ball and new age kurling as part of the year 3 and 4 Inclusion Festival.  The five participating schools were Bishop Loveday, Hardwick, Orchard Fields, St. Joseph’s, and St. Mary’s Aston Le Walls.

Many of our schools also took part in ‘The biggest football session in the world’ on Wednesday 8th March to celebrate girls’ football in schools.  Schools held girls' football activities at lunch-time and arranged inter-school matches.  In addition, sixty-five children and eight teams from Bishop Loveday and St. Joseph’s participated in the cluster year 3 and 4 football competitions on 23rd March.

Our final event of the term saw Bishop Loveday, Hardwick, and St. Joseph’s play in the Partnership Bee Netball Festival at Wykham Park Academy on Thursday 30th March.

In addition to these events, thirty-two teaching assistants from William Morris, Longford Park and Cherry Fields received Active Playground training.   I also got the opportunity to visit both Hardwick and St. John’s to find out more about their PE, School Sport, and Physical Offer.

Finally, well done to all involved in these events this term, including the fifty-six student leaders from Blessed George Napier who have done a fantastic job in supporting the delivery of the events.  As well as developing their leadership skills, the student leaders will also acquire valuable life skills along the way.
