PE Mentor Impact Analysis 2014-15

As part of our annual review process Headteachers and/or PE subject leaders from across our Option 3 primary schools were invited to comment on the impact of our Mentor programme 2014-15.

69% of schools completed our questionnaire and its findings offer a resounding endorsement of the programme’s success, pinpointing significant impact on the development and delivery of high quality teaching and learning in PE and improved pupil participation and progress in PE.

100% of respondents felt that regular support from our team of mentors had improved staff knowledge, skills and understanding in PE, had improved staff confidence and competence in delivering PE lessons, and had helped staff to plan well-structured and effective lessons showing skills progression.

Similarly 100% of schools agreed that Mentor input had increased the enjoyment and participation of pupils, had increased pupil confidence to try new activities/sports/skills in PE, and had supported children to make good or excellent progress in PE.

There was also significant backing for the premise that the team of Mentors had supported the introduction of a more inclusive curriculum, achieving greater engagement amongst the less active, vulnerable and/or under represented.

Individual feedback included:

“Impressed with impact on teaching and learning”

“Challenged and supported children to make progress in key skills”

“Huge inspiration in helping staff teach PE”

“Positive impact to pupil health through C4L programme”

“Boosted the profile of PE across the school”

“Allowed teachers to teach ‘outside their comfort zone’ in a supportive environment”
