Sports Formats & Celebration Days

National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) have created sports formats for intra and inter-school School Games competition, to encourage all young people to participate, including those with disabilities.

Intra School Competition (Level 1)

The intra-school competition formats for primary schools are designed as competitive challenges leading to a recognisable competition in that sport, helping pupils to learn the skills of the game. At Secondary level, the formats are traditional, modified and alternative formats of sports, designed to help pupils expand their skill development.  Inclusive sports formats have been created to enable special educational needs/disabled (SEND) and non-SEND pupils from mainstream schools to compete against each other, ensuring the School Games, and school sport, is accessible and available to all young people.

Intra School competition and challenge format cards are available at www.yourschoolgames.com.

Schools are encouraged to run a ‘School Games Day’, the ultimate school sports day, as the culmination of their intra school competition programme and a celebration of sport within their school community, encompassing the themes of culture, celebration and inclusion.

Schools who register the date of their School Games Day at www.yourschoolgames.com will receive resources and equipment to support the delivery of their day.

Inter School Competition (Level 2)

At level 2, our comprehensive inter school competition programme is driven by local demand and our strong links with local sports clubs and organisations so that we can further support the transition into community sport, ensuring that young people have similar, high quality experiences in both school and club sport.

Inter School competition format cards are available at www.yourschoolgames.com and the competition programme for North Oxfordshire can be viewed here.
