BGN Family Year 5/6 Kwik Cricket Festival

The annual Year 5 and 6 Kwik Cricket Festival for the BGN Family of Primary Schools took place on Thursday 19th May at Banbury Cricket Club. One hundred and sixty children played in the Festival, with twelve boys' and seven girls' teams involved.

Teams from Cropredy, Hardwick, Orchard Fields, St. John’s RC, Hill View, Bishop Loveday and St. John’s Priory Primary Schools played in the Festival.  Teams were divided into three separate competitions; Boys’ Cup for ‘A’ teams, Boys’ Plate for B and C teams and Girls’ teams.  Sixteen Blessed George Napier student sport leaders took responsibility for umpiring and scoring the matches.  With teams playing across eight pitches there was plenty of cricket skills and enthusiasm on display throughout the day.

St.  John’s Priory beat Cropredy A in the final of the Boys’ Cup competition, Hill view defeated Bishop Loveday in the Girls’ final and both Cropredy B and Orchard Fields B were joint winners in the Boys’ Plate final.  All winning teams were presented with certificates and both St. John’s Priory (Boys) and Hill View Primary School (Girls) will represent the BGN family at the Level 3 County Kwik Cricket finals in July. .

During the event, the Spirit of the Games value of passion was a key focus area. A player from each team was selected and presented with a special certificate in recognition of their positive attitude and perseverance throughout the festival.

The event proved a big success with all children enjoying the event.  It is hoped that they will have been inspired to continue playing cricket.
