Cooper Family Quadkids 2016

More than one hundred children participated in the Cooper Family Quadkids Athletics Final for Primary School children in Years 3 to 6. More local children have also taken part in the Quadkids Athletics Programme as Level 1 (intra) competitions were run by several of the participating Schools. The Cooper Family Final provided the opportunity for the best athletes from each school to take part in a Level 2 (inter) event and compete against those from other schools, as individuals and as part of a team.

The Final was organised by and took place at The Cooper School and was run by an expert team of student sports leaders. There were separate competitions for Years 3/4 and Years 5/6 with a total of twelve teams from Glory Farm, Langford Village, Fringford, Launton and Longfields Schools taking part.

The Quadkids format enables children of primary school age to have fun participating in the core disciplines of running, jumping and throwing. All athletes completed a quadrathlon, competing in four events; the sprint over 75 metres or 50 metres, the run over 600 metres or 400 metres, the standing long jump and the vortex howler throw. Results were recorded and totalled to find the best all-round athletes and teams. The children had a great time and there were some high quality performances.

During the competitions, the Spirit of the Games value of determination was a focus area and a young athlete from each team was presented with a special certificate in recognition of the high level of determination they had shown.

Congratulations to the winning Schools, Longfields and Fringford, which took the team honours in the Years 5 and 6 and Years 3 and 4 competitions respectively, and also to the individual winners Tia, Jhazane, Chelsie and Charlie. The winning teams and the first three girls and boys in each age group have qualified for the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership Quadkids Final which will take place later in June at The Cooper School.

Bicester Athletic Club, in the form of Club coach Steve Flynn, supported the Quadkids event and It is hoped that many of the children will have been inspired to participate further at their local community club.
