BGN Family Year 3&4 Football Festival

Over eighty Year 3 and 4 children participated in the BGN Family of Primary Schools’ Football Festival held at Blessed George Napier Catholic School on Thursday 13th October 2016.

Ten teams from Bishop Loveday, Cropredy, Orchard Fields and St. John’s Primary Schools took part.  Upon arrival all players were warmed up by Year 8 BGN student sport leaders.  The ten teams were divided into two pools of 5 and played a series of round-robin matches followed by play-off matches.

There was lots of skill, effort and determination displayed by all teams which were expertly refereed by BGN student sport leaders.  The semi-finals were both close and tense matches with St. John’s A edging out Cropredy A by the single goal and Bishop Loveday defeating St. John’s B 2-1.  Bishop Loveday then went out to beat St. John’s A comfortably in the final and crowed BGN Family Year 3/4 Football champions 2016. Congratulations to both finalists who have qualified for the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership Football Final on 8th November at Banbury United Football Club.

In the other play-off matches both Orchard Fields A and Cropredy B could not be separated drawing 2-2 and claiming joint fifth spot.  Cropredy C beat Orchard Fields B 2-0 to come seventh and Orchard Fields C defeated St. John’s C 2-1 to get ninth position.

During the event, the Spirit of the Games value of respect was a key focus area. A player from each team was selected and presented with a special certificate to recognise the respect they had shown throughout the competition.

Thank you to all players, teachers, teaching assistants and BGN student Sport Leaders who contributed to a fantastic event which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
