Bicester Area Year 3/4 Mini Tennis

The Bicester Area Year 3/4 mini tennis Red festival for the Bicester and Copper family of Primary Schools took place on Wednesday 3rd May at Bicester Tennis Club. (Garth Park)             sixty four children from Fritwell, Kings Meadow, Southwold, St. Mary’s  and Langford Primary Schools took part in the festival.

It was a chilly morning for tennis but the wind did not dampen the spirits of the competitors. The teams played a round robin tournament competing against all the different teams who were there. The competition format was singles and doubles game with teams being made up of a mix of boys and girls ranked in their order of tennis confidence. As the tournament was based on a round robin format, it was all to play for as the games continued. It was lovely to see so many pupils enjoying playing tennis. The leaders umpired and ran the games effectively helping to keep the tournament flowing.  Thank you as well to the teachers for coming along and supporting the event. They were very flexible when the format of the competition changed last minute -  thank you. Congratulations to both Langford and St Mary’s who will now represent Bicester at the SSP finals at Banbury Tennis Club.

During the festival, the Spirit of the Games value of honesty was a key focus area and a special certificate was presented to one child from each team in recognition of the high level of sporting behaviour they had shown throughout the event.

Well done to the sixteen Bicester School Young Leaders who did a fantastic job scoring, umpiring, giving guidance and encouragement to the Primary School children throughout the event.  Finally thank you to Bicester Tennis Club for supporting the event and helping to lend equipment to the festival.

Having all teams play each other in around robin maximized play and chances of qualifying is fairer. Fantastic event, children always enjoy, thank you.”  (PE Coordinator Kings Meadow)

All children were encouraged and enjoyed the morning. Leaders very good.”  (PE Coordinator Fritwell)
