Gosford Hill Team Superschools Challenge
Released: 16th March 2009 at 22:00 PM
Team Superschools Challenge was set up by Darren Campbell and Todd Bennett, as a means of raising money for local talented athletes who are training for the Olympics and also to raise money for schools. Their challenge is to go into 2012 schools before the 2012 Opening Ceremony.
At Gosford Hill School on March 16th, Todd was accompanied by the International triple jumper, Larry Achike. Students from Year 7, 8 and 9 had their photograph taken with Larry, asked him questions and watched him demonstrate the progressions of a triple jump.
The students took part in nine challenges including sit ups, star jumps, squat thrusts and press ups for which they were sponsored. Year 13 Leaders helped to run the challenges.
Todd and Larry take a Union Jack into every school they visit and ask one of the students to write the name of their school on the flag. Bethany Hawtin, a young athlete in Year 7, was asked to perform this task. The flag will be taken to the London Olympics.
