Cooper Quadkids Athletics

The annual Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6 Quadkids Athletics took place on the 7 June at The Cooper School. The attending primary schools were Fringford with 6 teams; Glory Farm, Launton and Longfield all bringing 2 teams each. There were a total of 106 children taking part in 4 events. These events were officiated by 30 Year 9 Sports Leader, under the close supervision of Amy Ashton and Tom Gould; Cooper 6 Form pupils. Bicester Athletics Club was represented by Steve Flynn who ensured the primary children knew how to complete the running events.

The Quadkids format enables children of primary school age to have fun participating in the core disciplines of running, jumping and throwing. All athletes completed a quadrathlon, competing in four events; the sprint over 75 metres or 50 metres, the run over 600 metres or 400 metres, the standing long jump and the vortex howler throw. Results were recorded and totalled to find the best all-round athletes and teams. The children had a great time and there were some high quality performances.

During the competitions, the Spirit of the Games value of determination was a focus area and two young athletes from each team was presented with a special certificate in recognition of the high level of determination they had shown. The support that the pupils gave their team mates was very encouraging to see, once the throwing and jumping events were completed, these pupils came to watch and support the running events, which is what Athletics is all about!

Congratulations to the winning Schools, Fringford and Longfield, which took the team honours in the Years 3 and 4 and Years 5 and 6 winners were Launton and Fringford. Congratulations go out to all the individual winners who came from the winning schools and all the children that participated in the events. The winning teams and the first three girls and boys in each age group have qualified for the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership Quadkids Final, which will take place later on the 28 June at The Cooper School.
