BGN Family Summer Sports Festival

On Thursday 28th June in glorious sunshine, one hundred children from five BGN Family Primary Schools took part in the Inclusion Summer Sports Festival at Blessed George Napier.  The event was targeted at children who had not previously participated in festival and competitions this academic year.  Year 3, 4 and 5 children from Bishop Loveday, Cropredy, Hardwick, Orchard Fields and St. John’s participated in various cricket and rounders activities.

Teams of ten children competed together in a circuit of games including traditional rounders, mini rounders, scatter ball, diamond, pairs and continuous cricket.  The activities were expertly delivered by twenty-three Year 7and 8 young student leaders from Blessed George Napier who offered encouragement and guidance throughout.

During the event, the Spirit of the Games value of Teamwork was a key focus area. A boy and a girl from each team was selected and presented with a special certificate in recognition of their positive attitude and enthusiasm throughout the festival.

Each school also received a resource pack with details how to play each game.  It is hoped these adapted games can be shared with colleagues and children to play in PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs back at their Primary Schools.  There is no doubt all the children enjoyed the various challenges of each game and had a positive experience from the festival.
